Introduction!

Hello! Welcome to my blog, 'Smells Like Spilt Coffee'. A site dedicated to the theoretical rambles and abstract treatises that spill out of my caffeinated skull in the early hours of the morning.

I'm currently a second year English Literature and History student studying at Newcastle University, a fledgling Early Medievalist, and above all, a philomath.

I've made this blog to record the academic journey that I have already started, but hope to continue for the rest of my life. Posts may include book reviews, degree updates, developments in my essay writing process, mudlarking finds, museum visits, and more!

I'm very much still in the process of discovering which topics fascinate me the most, and what an exciting process that is! However, themes you can expect to see here include Anglo-Saxon history and literature; Old Norse history and literature; etymology; the history of medicine; the history of mountaineering; the history of speleology; mountaineering literature; mudlarking and some of my own creative work.

Whilst I don't expect this blog to gain many, if any, readers, I do hope it can become a place to map out my academic development which my future self can reflect upon (hello, future me!). If you are a reader that isn't myself, then thank you for being here <3.

On that note, I better go and finish this essay on modernist literature. To quote Virginia Woolf, 'my brain hums with scraps of poetry and madness'.

All the best,

Anna x
